Parent Talk | Building STEM Careers: Autistic Students & Diversity
January 21 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm EST
The first Parent Talk of the year will feature Dr. James P. Lawler, a Professor of Disability Studies and Information Technology at Pace University. He completed a comprehensive paper on Enabling Autistic College Students to Evaluate Best-of-Class Employment Practices in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) as his recent sabbatical study.
Dr. Lawler will present a best-of-class employment model for autistic students based on how technology companies are believed to operate. He will explain how the model supports autistic students with job preparation, workplace settings, career growth, health and personal services, and community outreach in top technology companies.
This presentation includes a helpful guide for parents and students to assess how autistic students can succeed in more supportive STEM careers. The presentation will conclude with a 10-minute Q&A session.
